SANDEN
Sanden (also known as Sankyo) is the most popular and commonly used swashplate type compressor.
Although they makes literally hundreds of models, most are variations (such as clutch size and port connections) of
the older "505" and "508" models. If you are looking to replace an existing compressor, the switch from R-12 to R-134a
has brought even more confusion. Deciding which of the new models is interchangeable with the older versions can be
quite a task. Fortunately, they are interchangeable. Use the descriptions and dimensional information provided on
this page to guide you in your selection. If you are are purchasing a new compressor to replace an existing one -
see our Selection & Conversion Guide.
Compressors
Air compressors are vital pieces of equipment for abrasive glass etching. It is important to select a good one for your use,
as it can save you a lot of money in the long run. If you pick the wrong one, you will probably have to replace it in a short
time and it probably won't do the job you need for efficient etching.
Solenoids
Conventional solenoids have the desirable characteristic of low cost, however they have a number of drawbacks:
they are noisy, they can burn out, and they generally require AC to give a constant force with distance.
The noise arises from two sources: the impact when the solenoid closes and the vibration of the plunger against
the end stop when energised with AC. Those energised with AC can burn out if they do not properly close,
because when not closed the inductance is low and hence the current is high.
To overcome these limitations while retaining the desirable characteristics of low cost .
